London to Swakopmund (Namibia) Walking Challenge
– 6737 miles (10, 842 km)
***UPDATE ***
Congratulations!!! Mission accomplished! The team have walked ALL THE WAY to Swakopmund!!! A massive distance of 6,737 miles/10,842km
Please help us reach our target of £6,737 by donating whatever you can!
In 2019, 14 women signed up to a special expedition run jointly by Cathadventure and Love Her Wild, to spend 10 days in October 2020 tracking and collecting conservation data on desert elephants in Namibia. Working closely with the EHRA team they would monitor movement and health of the herds and their financial support would help EHRA in their mission to build practical solutions to improve elephant-human relations.
It will be no news to you that 2020 brought with it a global pandemic, resulting in the expedition being postponed until November 2021.
THE PROBLEM
Covid-19 restrictions have caused two specific issues for participants and EHRA:
1. Funds that the participants and others would have contributed, plus working hours to the charity have also been put on hold. Without these funds and labour, EHRA are struggling to pay its team and continue its amazing work.
2. Restrictions in their home country, have resulted in a lack of purpose and drive for these women who love to travel and be outside.
THE SOLUTION
And so, the London (Heathrow) to Namibia (Swakopmund) walking challenge was born. Starting on the 30th November 2020 and continuing until the 15th November, the team have 350 days to walk 6737 miles (10,842 km) between them. Virtually travelling through France and Spain and into Northern Africa, virtually experiencing countries such as Algeria, Nigeria, Gabon, Angola and of course Namibia itself. It will take approximately 2133 hours of walking to complete this challenge, an incredible commitment from the team over the next year.
We aim to raise £6737 – that’s £1 per mile. Please encourage us to keep going by donating to EHRA and help fund their conservation work, continue to monitor these unique elephants and help support the rural communities in the areas in which they live.
Every little helps – even a couple of pounds!
Thank you!
