Desert adapted elephants

Namibia‘s desert elephants are a source of great interest and many enthusiasts travel from both abroad and locally to enjoy the company of these majestic giants, and soak in their unique surroundings.

Conflict mitigation

The reality of living with elephants is often largely underestimated by most people. Elephants come onto homesteads and farms in search for water and food, often breaking pipes or windmills to drink water and sometimes breaking into houses to access food stored inside. This can be very scary and dangerous!

Identifying elephants

In order correctly count elephant numbers and understand their movement and social network it is important to be able to identify each individual. EHRA has compiled a complete and detailed elephant identification database for the Huab River and Ugab River elephants.

Elephant conservation

Human-elephant conflicts, overhunting, competition with livestock over food and water and loss of habitat are critical stress factors that result in a decreasing desert elephant population. Learn here what EHRA does to create long-term solutions to the problems.
